Greetings!

Now in its sixth year, Yoga for Peace was founded in response to the events of September 11, 2001, and the violence and distrust that followed. As some of you know Global Mala Project was launched in 2007 by a team of prominent international yoga teachers with Shiva Rea as a catalyst.

With the growing demand for Peace in our World, the founders of the Global Mala Project and Yoga for Peace have chosen to merge the two September yoga events. This move is inspired by your feedback and the belief that to combine our efforts is a symbol of a unified yoga community everywhere which places a high value on peace and action: United in our Worldwide Call for Peace.

Participants from across the globe will celebrate life by bringing together the worldwide yoga community creating a "Mala of Peace" by performing 108 Sun Salutations, with the intention of bringing peace and healing to our world, and raise funds for well deserved charities.

This year's event will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 uniting with UN International Peace Day where a commitment by UN countries was made on Sept. 7, 2001 to cease fire. Please visit this inspirational site www.peaceoneday.org.

The festivities will begin outdoors on the Boston Common. A silent sunrise yoga mala will be lead by prominent yoga instructors from the Boston community including Kim Valerie and Daniel Orlansky. Participants will move to powerful drum beats while completing an invigorating practice of 108 sun salutations.

Upon completion of the mala, participants will rest in svasana, a lying meditation, to form a human mandala, or peace wheel.

We are delighted to have a special appearance made by Lisa "Prajna" Hallstrom a prominent leader of Kirtan! Prajna will lead the kirtan and chanting, that signals the commencement and closure of the morning mala celebration.

The day continues on with a procession leading to the Cyclorama (Boston Center for Arts) where an opening ceremony & world wide moment of silence will take place followed by another yoga mala and meditation which will be lead by prominent yoga instructors, including Richard Lanza. A yogi bazaar, wellness fair, healing room, organic food and raffle prizes will be available throughout the event. The day will then transition to AcroYoga Jam!

An early dinner break will be followed by an evening with special guest speakers and Kirtan with the amazing David Newman (Durga Das) & Band!
As a gesture of support for shared goals, we hope you will come together and join us in the spirit of experiencing the power of collective practice and sacred action. The sacred action is raising awareness for specific projects in three areas: global warming, AIDS, and poverty.

Each year Global Mala Yoga For Peace Boston event will feature a global and a local charity where proceeds will benefit an organization dedicated to spreading peace and demonstrating compassion. For 2008, the global charity is Trees for the Future and the local charity is The Food Project .

It is hoped that the experience of this event will make a lasting impression into the daily lives of all participants so that they may be leaders of their life and influence others.

Without a doubt, Global Mala Yoga for Peace will be the largest non-profit yoga event in Boston's history.

I sincerely hope and encourage you to join us for what will be a memorable day in the calling of world peace.

In Union,
Shelley
